Excessive greenhouse gas emissions (particularly carbon dioxide (CO2)) play a significant role in the global climate crisis. Implementing cyanobacterial CO2-concentrating mechanisms (CCMs) and RPE Rubisco (a more efficient form of the enzyme that catalyzes CO2 fixation in photosynthesis) from cyanobacteria into yellow dent corn, we have designed a crop that is eight times more efficient at sequestering CO2. If our crop is grown, it will provide nutrition and offset CO2 emissions
