A Sphingomonas KC8 system has been designed to test for estrogen-contaminated water.  In order to control the growth of the bacteria, we plan to apply an MIT- conceptualized deadman microbial kill switch which uses unbalanced reciprocal transcriptional repression to couple a specific input signal with cell survival.
